My Story

Chaeyeong Lee is a Korean percussionist who enjoyed success in various fields, namely as a soloist, chamber musician, and as an orchestral musician. She received a full scholarship to the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) after graduating from Deokwon Arts High School in Korea. Following completion of her undergraduate studies, she continued her studies at the Tianjin Juilliard School (TJS), China, where she is also a full scholarship recipient, and graduated with a master's degree.

When she performed a concerto in the KBS Concert Hall for the 22nd Deokwon Annual Concert in 2013, she experienced her first major engagement with the audience. She subsequently made the decision to major in percussion and went on to study with percussionist Joonbum Park in light of her firm belief in music.

Her most recent accomplishments include taking home the first prize in the chamber music category at the 2019 Thailand International Percussion Festival, placing third in the semi-final rounds of the Yong Siew Toh Concerto Competition in 2019, and performing as a soloist at "Around the World in 80 Minutes," which took place in Kuching, Malaysia, in 2018.

Chaeyeong has played in orchestras all around the world, including the New Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea, the Goyang Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea, the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra in Singapore, and many more. She also joined the Focus Percussion Ensemble in Korea because she is passionate about ensemble playing. Chaeyeong has also appeared in numerous video recordings with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music Percussion Ensemble, many of which can be seen on YouTube.

Along with orchestral and solo performances, she also played in the Opus Novus New Music ensemble, where she performed programs that mixed significant compositions by internationally renowned composers with more recent pieces and lesser-known gems from the contemporary repertoire. She attended masterclasses taught by outstanding soloists and orchestral musicians from all over the world, including Stuart Marrs, Jim Ancona, Gifford Howarth, and Patrick Wirth, among others. She took part in a festival celebrating cultural exchange in Bail, Indonesia in 2019, where she studied traditional Indonesian music in depth, including Balinese and Sundanese musical ensemble forms.

Chaeyeong received her Bachelor of Music degree from Singapore's Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of Singapore Symphony Orchestra Principal Percussionist Jonathan Fox. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at Tianjin Juilliard School with Professor June Hahn Moon Kyung.
